Data and method

Where the data comes from

Results, goals, cards, corners, referees and players come from sports data providers and published match results, for every league on this site, up to 13 seasons back. The same data feeds the statistics pages, the facts and the model.

How fresh it is

The site is rebuilt three times a day, at about 10:45, 15:45 and 20:45 Tallinn time. A finished match's result arrives with the next build. Every page shows at the bottom when it was last updated.

Statistics are not predictions

League, team, referee and player numbers are counted from matches already played. They describe the past; they do not say what will happen. Only tips and goal stats are estimates, and they are labelled as such.

How a tip is settled

Automatically, from the score after 90 minutes plus stoppage time. For cards a yellow counts 1 and a red 2. A match that is postponed or abandoned does not count as a hit or a miss; if it is played later, the real result counts. A bookmaker may settle differently.

When a number is wrong

Sources sometimes correct a score or a card count afterwards; our data is refreshed every day, so the statistics pages follow. The log of tips is never edited in place: a correction is added as a new line, so the history stays visible. If you spot a wrong number, write to hello@pitchlabstats.com and we will check it.

What stays private

The model's formulas, thresholds and the research behind them are our own work. Everything needed to judge the results is public: every tip before kickoff, its strength, its result and the whole record as a CSV file.
